How To Make Wooden Crates

Wooden crates are very sturdy and very much simple to make. You have to use 9cm wide pine boards for the slats and 19mm plywood for the sides.

Timber crates (another name for wooden crates) are made the same way. To make crates you have set up a block on the mitre saw due to same sizes of all the boards. To extend the fence on the saw you have to clamp a board and stop block to it.

The actual measurements of the slat boards are all identical due to its length but not critical. The plywood for the wooden crates is the only other wood to cut to size. You can use a circular saw if you don’t have a table saw.
A Forstner bit is used to drill two large holes for making long handholds. To make this process easy a drill press is used. The edges of the holes are connected by drawing lines and a jigsaw is used to cut it out.

You have to just draw out the shape of the handheld, drill a small entry hole and cut it out with a jigsaw if you don’t have any Forstner bits.

The sharp edges of the hole have to be sharpened. On the router you have to use 6mm round over bit. With the help of hand sandpaper, you can send them smooth.

The first board is the most difficult part of assembling the crates. You have to clamp it to the bottom edge of the plywood side pieces.

Before inserting screws it is good to drill the holes. When the screws are close to the end of the board then it’s important to drill pilot holes.

So these are some steps following which you can make wooden crates.
